Veterans News Gives Back to Veteran Community

It’s always great to give back to the community and support a great cause.

In August of 2020, Veterans News put on a special BBQ dinner for all the residents at the Veterans Villa complex located in south Edmonton. The not-for-profit housing complex is apart of the Veterans Housing Project. Unfortunately, they have small budgets and limited funding at times that really depend on sponsors plus donations to help cover costs to maintain and operate their facility. However, Iris, who is the property and building Manager at Veterans Villa, makes it work and has been the manager for many years and truly loves what she does, and the positive impact it has for veterans who live onsite. An estimated 50 people attended the BBQ dinner, that included many veterans who are residents of the apartment complex. In fact, it had been the first time in almost 18 months that all the residents at Veterans Villa had been able to get together and see each other again in social functions since the beginning of COVID19. It was great to see everyone together laughing, smiling, and enjoying the delicious home cooked food that was prepared and cooked by the staff at Veterans News to say thank you to Iris and her team plus show support for all the residents at Veterans Villa. It was a great way to bring people together that for many of the residents, social gatherings like these were common in the building prior to the pandemic, unfortunately, with the current situation, many residents were isolated from their neighbours on some levels for almost 18 months. So, it was nice and appreciated by Iris and the residents to be able to sit down together like old times again. Veterans Villa is one of many causes and non-profit organizations that Veterans News supports in many ways, not just financially, but they also help raise awareness so other companies, organizations and every day people can help wherever possible. Every little bit counts and helps Veterans Villa stay operational to provide affordable housing to veterans in the Edmonton region and keeps veterans off the streets from being homeless. If you or anyone would like to make donations or support Veterans Villa, please contact Iris at 780-435-2096 as we know she would be very appreciative of the extra help in any way.
